Out on a hunting trip with her big sister, Brecht, Eirwen hears a tale about what there truly is to fear out on the tundra of Reonden. The story comes alive as Brecht works fire magic to create images in the flames of threats far worse than Bears or packs of wolves; the Ash Witch Bavmorda and her followers. Samael, the Green Death whose breath brings plague, and Vretiel, the prophet seeking to resurrect an ancient, dead god only he can hear.
